By · January 3, 2022 · 2 min read

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A 10-year-old child lost a little toe after being attacked by a piranha in a lake in Goiás state.

The family was spending the holiday in Brisas Lake (Lago das Brisas) , a tourist spot in Buriti Alegre, in the south of Goiás, when the attack happened on the first day of the year (1/1).

According to the report of the father of the child to the G1 portal, his son was swimming in the shallow part of the lake when he started screaming. When he ran to rescue the boy, he saw that the child had been attacked by a piranha.

The boy was rushed to a health unit and had to have his little toe amputated. A prosthesis will be put in place.
