Peruvian agricultural exports rise 22.9% between January and July

Peruvian agricultural exports reached US$5.12 billion between January and July this year, an increase of 22.9 percent in the period, the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (Midagri) reported Monday.

The portfolio stated that the figure showed agricultural exports “maintained their upward trend” compared to the same period in 2021.

On the one hand, non-traditional agricultural exports reached US$4.562 billion, up 14.4 percent year-on-year, thanks to higher shipments of avocado (avocado) by 15.6 percent and fresh grapes by 13.2 percent.

This was followed by fresh mangoes (4.6 percent), fresh cranberries (4.3 percent), fresh or chilled asparagus (3.3 percent), animal feed (2.9 percent), frozen mangoes (2.8 percent),  citrus (2.5 percent) and other fresh fruits (2 percent).

Also of note are crude palm oil (1.6 percent), banana,as including plantains (1.6 percent), and other cacao beans (1.5 percent). These 12 products together account for 56 percent of non-traditional exports.

Traditional agricultural exports amounted to US$588 million, representing a “significant increase” of 212.2 percent over the same period in 2021.

In this regard, they pointed to the higher rankings of unroasted coffee without decaffeination (255.7%) and cane molasses (14.1%), products that accounted for 96% of traditional agricultural exports.”

The main destinations for traditional and non-traditional agricultural exports were the United States, the Netherlands, Spain, Ecuador, China, Chile, Germany, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and Colombia, accounting for 75.6% of the export value.

On the other hand, Midagri reported that the agricultural trade balance between January and July showed a surplus of US$1.15 billion, a figure 58% higher than last year.
