Exhibition Presents a Panorama of Seventy Years of Brazilian art

SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – Today, August 27th, for the first time, “Farol Santander” in São Paulo will exhibit to the public a part of its collection of works of art at “Contemporâneo, sempre – Coleção Santander Brasil” (Contemporary, always – Santander Brazil Collection).

The exhibition features a panorama that explores seventy years of Brazilian art, bringing together a set of paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, and photographs. The 64 works selected from a collection including 2,000 works are divided into the following categories: Abstraction, Portrait, and Landscape.

The category Abstraction features the never-before-exhibited work of the artist Bené Fonteles. Untitled, the work was created in 1980. The oldest work is the sculpture “Tocadora de Guitarra” (1923), by Victor Brecheret, while the most recent one came from Paulo Almeida’s hands: a painting that is part of a series named “Palimpsestos”. The creative process of the work has to do with modifying it with every new exhibition. The artist will work onsite to complete the changes a few days before the opening to the public.

The exhibition will also feature a multimedia area developed by Rizoma Edições Digitais, where visitors can interact with a projection on the wall displaying deconstructed images of the exhibited works. Visitors can change projected shapes and colors with their own movements.

According to Ricardo Ribenboim, one of the curators, the exhibition’s title refers to the fact that the works were acquired close to the period in which they were produced, thus reflecting the art of the time that they were acquired.

Agnaldo Farias, also a curator of the exhibition, explained that he had previous contact with Santander collection, which he qualifies as “almost unbelievable”. He also highlighted the fact that the works were acquired at the time when they were produced. According to him, whoever buys a work of art while it is still being produced makes a bet.
