Brazil’s Porto do Sudeste Auction Marks Final Chapter for Eike Batista’s Mining Legacy

Brazil will auction the last major assets of Porto do Sudeste, a key mineral export port, on August 19, 2025. These assets—over 9.5 million convertible debentures and 6.3 million shares—once belonged to MMX, the mining company founded by Eike Batista.

The minimum bid is set at R$60 million, according to the official auction notice. Any money raised will help pay off debts from MMX’s bankruptcy.

Porto do Sudeste sits in Baía de Sepetiba, near Rio de Janeiro, and is a crucial hub for shipping Brazilian iron ore to global markets. The port’s importance comes from its role in Brazil’s export infrastructure.
