Three provocative US-led military exercises launched in Europe on Russia’s doorstep

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Three major U.S.-led military exercises are currently taking place in the shadow of the current war in Ukraine: “Swift Response 2022,” “Defender Europe 2022,” and “Trojan Footprint 2022.” This will hardly contribute to de-escalation.

As the war in Ukraine enters its third month, the United States and its Western partners are simultaneously holding three large-scale military exercises in Europe.

Once again, tens of thousands of troops from several NATO countries are being prepared to go to war against Russia to fight and die for the interests of globalist elites.

Swift Response 2022, an annual exercise hosted by the U.S. Army’s Europe and Africa Command, began Monday and will last through May 20.

The exercise will be conducted in various locations in the far northern Arctic, the Baltics, the Balkans, and other parts of Eastern Europe, the Army said in a statement.

About 9,000 troops – including 2,700 Americans and 6,300 soldiers from 16 allied nations – will participate.

In addition to training for “Arctic defense operations,” the soldiers will simulate “joint violent incursions” from the air in Latvia, Lithuania, and northern Macedonia.

Poland announced Sunday the start of the Defender Europe 2022 military exercises, which will take place May 1-27 in nine countries and involve 18,000 soldiers from more than 20 nations.

“Warsaw said the troops’ ability to work together in a joint combat operation will be tested in various training sessions, including long-distance tactical marches, river crossing, and live-fire exercises,” Warsaw said.

This year’s Defender Europe will be scaled down from previous editions, as more than 30,000 soldiers from 27 nations will participate in the exercises in 2021. It was reportedly one of the most extensive military exercises on the continent since the Cold War.

Trojan Footprint 2022 is also a third NATO military exercise this year. This one is for special operations forces (Special Forces) of NATO forces.

The two-week exercises are spread across Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, northern Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, and even non-member Georgia. A total of 30 nations are taking part, with a combined total of around 3,300 soldiers.

With no fewer than three large-scale military exercises in Eastern and Southeastern Europe, some of them near Russia’s borders, NATO is sending no signal of détente.

How will Russia respond?
