After pleading not guilty, Trump attacks prosecutor and Democrats: ‘Our country is going to hell’

In a speech on Tuesday evening (4) at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, former US President Donald Trump (2017-2021) attacked prosecutor Alvin Bragg and the Democratic Party for the charges filed against him hours earlier in a New York court.

Similar to what he had done in a statement released last week, Trump claimed to be a victim of political persecution.

“I never thought anything like this could happen in the United States.”

“The only crime I have committed is to fearlessly defend our nation from those who seek to destroy it,” he said to an audience of supporters.

The former Republican president argued that Democrats “spied” on his campaign, attempted his impeachment without grounds twice, and promoted “illegal and unconstitutional” searches at Mar-a-Lago.

This referred to the investigation into whether Trump took classified White House documents to his Florida residence at the end of his term.

Trump went further and said that Twitter, Facebook, the Justice Department, and the FBI hid during the 2020 presidential campaign the allegations about the laptop of Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden.

“It wouldn’t have been in my favor [if the information had been released], but in our favor because our country is going to hell,” he fired.

Then he labeled his indictment in New York as “election meddling never seen in our country, starting with the George Soros-backed leftist radical, New York prosecutor Alvin Bragg, who campaigned saying he would get President Trump.”

The former president claimed that “even staunch Democrats say there is no crime, and this case should never have been brought.”

“It’s an insult to our country while the world is already laughing at us for many other reasons, like our open borders and incompetent withdrawal from Afghanistan […].”

“It is the most embarrassing moment in the history of our country, in my opinion.”

“They have given up energy independence […], crime statistics are growing in Democrat-run cities, numbers that never seen before, the declared threats by several countries to use nuclear weapons, something never mentioned in a discussion by foreign nations during the Trump administration, which could lead, under the leadership of the Biden administration, to a fully nuclear World War III,” charged the former president.

He will try again to run for the White House for the Republican Party in 2024.

Trump appeared in a Manhattan court on Tuesday to hear the charges for which he has been indicted, relating to an alleged payment made to porn actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign in exchange for her silence about a sexual relationship they had ten years earlier.

The former president was briefed on 34 counts of falsifying Trump Organization business records to conceal the payment.

The charges to which Trump has pleaded not guilty would carry a maximum sentence of more than 100 years in prison.
