Venezuela and Saudi Arabia share strong ties in oil matters and are two of the five founding countries of the Organization of Petroleum Producing Countries (OPEC).

This is Maduro’s third visit to that nation. He previously traveled in 2015 and 2016 in the framework of the struggle for the stability of the oil market.

Maduro arrived in Jeddah from Turkey, where he also held bilateral meetings to increase cooperation in different areas of strategic interest in the context of the inauguration of Recep Tayyip Erdogan as re-elected president.
