Correios Heading for Privatization, Says Bolsonaro

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL –   Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro said that the Correios (Postal Service) “is heading towards privatization”. “Not least because it’s been the focus of major scandals in the past. And it’s also a monopoly that can not afford any loss,” he said in a ceremony at the Planalto Palace.

In his speech, Bolsonaro mentioned the exchange of ministers that occurred in the government’s first 14 months, but said that all the changes were for “improvement”.

Recently, Bolsonaro changed the command of the of Civil Chief of Staff. “The (ministers) who left us went on missions to other places, such as the Correios, which a year ago (he meant last year) made a little profit after much deficit,” he said.

Not naming which, he said some institutions will not be privatized in his administration. But he stressed that the Correios must be privatized. “Although some institutions will not be privatized while I am president, the Correios is heading for privatization. it’s been the focus of major scandals in the past. And it’s also a monopoly can not afford any loss.”
