Brazil addresses liberalization of the industrial electricity market

Brazil's mines and energy ministry has authorized a public consultation until 26 August to determine rules for opening the industrial power market.

Market participants are being asked to send suggestions about the maximum power load allowed for consumers in bilateral contracts.

The power market's liberalization will allow all industrial consumers to choose their power suppliers beginning 1 January 2024, instead of relying on a regulated government-appointed supplier.
