Bolsonaro, Evangelical Groups Negotiating Five Million Signatures to Form New Party

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A story published on Sunday, December 8th, in Crusoé magazine and shared by Antagonista, the official website of Lava Jato, states that evangelicals have pledged to President Jair Bolsonaro to affiliate at least five million people to the newly-formed Alliance for Brazil party (APB).

In exchange, the group asks for two “influential” ministries in a future reform of the government.

The registration of Bolsonaro’s new party was made official on Thursday, December 5th, in Brasília. However, the registration of a new CNPJ (National Register of Legal Entities) is still required, in addition to filing a protocol with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).

After that procedure, the party will have a two-year period to collect 500,000 signatures in nine states, which is of concern to the president.

As a strategy, Bolsonaro has already coordinated a joint effort with notaries to collect the required signatures to enable the party’s creation, and the agreement with Evangelicals would be part of this effort.

The president’s circle is also preparing communication strategies to keep the base engaged in making sure the faction is fully legalized in time to run for next year’s municipal elections.
