Agro and evangelicals support Bolsonaro’s political acts on Brazil’s Independence Day

The September 7 political movements in support of the president and reelection candidate, Jair Bolsonaro (Liberal Party – PL), will be most expressively led by members of two key groups for his campaign: ruralists and evangelicals.

The Green and Yellow Brazil Movement, linked to agribusiness, will take tractors to the federal capital to show the segment’s support for the president. In Rio, religious leaders, like pastor Silas Malafaia, lead the event organization in Copacabana.

Some people are not affiliated with these groups with coordination roles in cities near Rio.

Poder360 discovered that central city figures organized transportation through groups on social networks. On Facebook, individual caravan prices vary between R$100 (US$19) and R$300.

Some travel plans include tours of the city’s tourist attractions and T-shirts with words supporting Bolsonaro. Macaé, Itaipava, São Gonçalo and Búzios are some of the cities with caravans arriving in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday.

Pastor Malafaia said he is unaware of funding movements of the caravans that will go to Copacabana. “I don’t know about that, no. There is no, there is no supporter-financed caravan, no. It is the people who go, whether in Brasília, São Paulo, or Rio. The only thing I did, because the president can’t speak [on stage], was to rent a truck with speakers,” he declared.

However, there are donations from business people to cover or minimize the cost of transporting these demonstrators to the scheduled locations.

PROGRAM

On the morning of September 7, the president will attend a breakfast with authorities at the Alvorada Palace at 7 AM, and a civic-military parade at 8:30 AM at the Esplanade. Soon after, he will go to the lawn in front of the National Congress for a political act around 11 AM.

The president will be in Rio de Janeiro from 2 PM to participate in the celebrations of the bicentennial of Brazil’s Independence, such as the civic-military ceremony, at Avenida Atlântica, near Avenida Rainha Elizabeth, in Copacabana. That will be the military parade.

The solemnity will have an air show and the presentation of music bands from the Marines. In addition, the parachute jump team from the Parachute Infantry Brigade, “the Comets”, reinforced by members of the “Falcon Team” from the Brazilian Air Force, will make a jump, landing on Copacabana beach.

The Smoke Squadron will make a presentation. Finally, the Brazilian Squadron fleet and the artillery stationed at Copacabana Fort will execute 21-gun salutes.

After the event led by the Ministry of Defense, in another space, the president will continue along the Copacabana beachfront towards the Copacabana Palace, where his supporters usually gather to declare their support. Bolsonaro is expected to speak at a campaign rally on a truck rented by Pastor Silas Malafaia.

In São Paulo, federal deputy and candidate for reelection Carla Zambelli (Liberal Party – PL) said she would be at the demonstration on Avenida Paulista, “wearing green and yellow”. To Poder360, she said that about 2 million demonstrators are expected.

Bolsonaro is expected to speak remotely during the political act in the capital of São Paulo. His candidate for the state government, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), plans to speak in person at the event.

SEPTEMBER 7

President Jair Bolsonaro has been calling on supporters to participate on September 7 since the launch of his campaign on July 24 this year. The president called on his supporters to celebrate in the streets.

In 2021, Bolsonaro opened the date by criticizing the ministers of the STF (Supreme Court). In a live broadcast, the president said that Brazil could not “be held hostage by one or two people.”

During a fiery speech, with direct criticism of the minister Alexandre de Moraes, Bolsonaro said he would not comply with the minister’s decisions and questioned the safety of electronic ballot boxes again.

During the sabatina of Jovem Pan’s Jornal da Manhã on Tuesday, September 6, the president said he had invited the eight business people who were targets of a Federal Police operation. According to the president, the demonstrations will be large, peaceful, and ask for “clean elections”.

In an interview with Jovem Pan from Curitiba last week, Bolsonaro invited the Supreme Court ministers to attend the September 7 events.
