Survey: Brazil Is World’s Second-most Willing Country to Be Immunized

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – China tops the list of countries where people are most likely to be vaccinated (80%), ahead of Brazil (78%) and the United Kingdom (77%), which began immunization on December 8th – points out a survey published on Tuesday, December 29th by Ipsos Global Advisor, in association with the World Economic Forum.

The United States, where a massive vaccination campaign has also begun, is the only country where plans to be immunized are increasing (69% today, 64% in October).

Only four out of ten French citizens intend to be vaccinated against Covid-19, according to the survey that shows France as the “world champion” of vaccine-resistant countries, ahead of Russia and South Africa.

In France, where the vaccination campaign has just begun, 40% of respondents would agree to be vaccinated against Covid-19, a very low figure compared to a preceding survey published in October (54% wanted to be immunized) and even more so in comparison to August (59%).

France is not the only country where the intention to be vaccinated is relatively low. According to the study, only 43% of Russians are prepared to have the vaccine, and 53% of South Africans. Next come Japan (60%), Italy and Spain (62%) and Germany (65%).

In the surveyed countries the main reason for resistance is the fear of side effects (80% in South Korea, 76% in Japan, 72% in France). Doubts regarding efficacy are the second reason in many countries.

Third, there is general opposition to vaccines, which concerns approximately a quarter of respondents in Russia (26%) and South Africa (23%), but less than 10% in South Korea (7%), Japan (8%) and China (9%). In France, 14% of respondents say they are against vaccines in general.

The survey was conducted in 15 countries by the Ipsos Global Advisor online platform between December 17th and 20th with a sample of 13,542 adults.
