Brazil Claims Second Spot in Global Air Conditioning Production

Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin announced Brazil has become the world’s second-largest air conditioning manufacturer in 2024. The country produced 5.8 million AC units last year, representing a 38% increase from 2023 production figures.

This achievement reflects broader growth in Brazil’s appliance sector. The industry sold 117.7 million products in 2024, marking a 29% increase from the previous year. Experts cite this as the best performance for the sector in a decade.

The Brazilian air conditioning market expanded to $9.8 billion in 2024. This growth coincides with the country’s overall economic improvement of 3.4% and rising real wages. The appliance industry expects further expansion through 2030.

Smart air conditioning technologies drive significant market development. Brazil‘s smart AC segment generated $440.5 million in 2024. Analysts project this figure will reach $926.2 million by 2030, growing at a 13.4% annual rate.

Chinese manufacturer Gree holds 17% market share, making it the second-largest AC company in Brazil. The firm has operated in Manaus for 25 years. Company executives aim to achieve market leadership within the next two years.

Brazilian Appliances Market and Environmental Regulations

The sector benefits from new environmental regulations. Recent policy changes will phase out most fixed-speed AC units by 2026. These standards will promote energy-efficient inverter technology across the market.

Officials expect these regulations to cut 72 million metric tons of CO₂ emissions by 2040. Consumers will save approximately $6.2 billion through reduced energy consumption over the same period.

The overall Brazilian appliances market generated $29.47 billion in 2024. Industry forecasts project growth to $39.28 billion by 2030. Furniture and household appliances sales increased by 9.9% in October 2024 alone.

Brazil continues to import significant AC components, primarily from China. Analysts predict these imports will grow steadily from 57.5 million kilograms in 2024 to 61.4 million kilograms by 2028.
