RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Embraer, the Aeronautics Technological Institute (ITA), and the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) made a joint investment of R$48 million (US$10.1 million) to create an Engineering Research Center (ERC) focused on the future of air mobility and aviation.
This investment will bring together the scientific community and aeronautics professionals to develop research based on three pillars: low-carbon aviation, autonomous systems, and advanced manufacturing.
According to Luis Carlos Affonso, senior vice president of Engineering, Technology, and Strategy at Embraer, this initiative will be a benchmark for company-government-academia cooperation toward developing zero-emission aviation. It will also disseminate aeronautical knowledge, train highly qualified human resources, and launch high-impact scientific publications.
“The partnership between FAPESP, Embraer, and ITA will surely be fruitful and will answer a major challenge facing research in the coming years: the transition to a low-carbon economy associated with advanced manufacturing,” said Marco Antonio Zago, president of FAPESP.
Embraer pointed out that partnerships such as the ERC enable the conditions for technology transfer between industry players and strengthen connections and innovations through partnership models and intellectual property management, fostering the incubation of new companies and stimulating entrepreneurial activities.
