União Brasil party evaluates launching Moro to São Paulo state government
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Vice-President of the União Brasil in São Paulo, Congressman Junior Bozzella, said that members of the executive party in the state want to launch former judge Sérgio Moro as a governor pre-candidate for São Paulo state. According to the parliamentarian, the assessment is that Moro’s name would strengthen the legend in São Paulo.
“There are members of the executive in São Paulo who want to put Moro as a candidate for governor to have a platform in the state, to strengthen the 44 [União Brasil’s number]. For some deputies, this is convenient because, with a candidacy for governor, you would have a more considerable legendary vote,” said Bozzella.
According to União Brasil’s leaders, besides serving as an electoral cable for Congressman Luciano Bivar, a pre-candidate to the Presidential Palace, Moro would also help elect federal deputies from the party.

Alongside his wife, lawyer Rosângela Moro, the party dome considers that the duo with Moro would further serve as a hook for electing a robust federal bench in Congress.
“With Moro as governor and Rosângela as deputy, you would have a lot of votes, and Rosângela would automatically inherit those votes that Moro would have for federal deputy. So, it would combine business and pleasure. It would be a great platform for Bivar in São Paulo, besides favoring the federal deputy in São Paulo and União Brasil in the country,” adds Bozzella.
Since he left the presidential race, the former judge presented himself as a pre-candidate for the Senate in São Paulo.
Commenting on the Real Time Big Data poll results last week, he said he would be “honored” to be a senator for the state. He appeared with 20% of voting intentions in the poll, technically tied with former governor Márcio França (PSB), who got 16%.
UNIÃO SIGNALS RUPTURE WITH GARCIA
If Moro’s pre-candidacy to the Bandeirantes Palace is confirmed, the move will be a break from União Brasil with governor Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB), who seeks re-election. Last December, the party supported the PSDB’s name for the São Paulo state government. At the time, the party released a note saying that Garcia had “his roots in our ranks”.
In April this year, the party also invited the current governor to join the legend. The idea was to continue the dispute for the government of São Paulo. The negotiations, however, did not move forward, and Garcia remained in PSDB.
