Brazil and Portugal sign memorandum on military aircraft manufacturing in Europe

Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer and several Portuguese aerospace companies signed a memorandum of understanding on the production of military aircraft in Europe on Monday.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is on his four-day official visit to the European country.

“Today, with the signing of this memorandum of understanding, we take another important step in the continued development of technologies related to the A-29 Super Tucano,” said Embraer Defense & Security president and CEO João Bosco da Costa Júnior.

He added that the new version of the aircraft will be designed to meet the operational needs of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

The Engineering and Product Development Center (CEiiA), Empordef Information Technologies (ETI), GMV, and the General Aeronautical Material Workshops (OGMA) are the Portuguese companies that signed the memorandum with Embraer.
