Who owns it

The three founding families still hold the controlling block. As of April 2025, controlling shareholders held 64.56% of the shares — 50.09% through the holding company WPA Participações, plus 14.47% held directly by family members.

That leaves roughly a third of the shares freely traded by the public. Brazilian managers and global investors such as BlackRock, Vanguard and Capital Group hold material positions, with foreign ownership rising on quality mandates.

Who runs it

Day-to-day leadership passed to a new chief executive in 2024. Alberto Yoshikazu Kuba has served as chief executive officer since 1 April 2024, after running the company’s industrial-motors operation.

The finances are led by Finance and Investor Relations Director André Menegueti Salgueiro. The board is chaired by a member of the founding family: Décio da Silva, son of co-founder Eggon João da Silva, serves as chairman of the board of directors.

The money, in plain words

WEG keeps about 16 cents of profit from every real of sales — a net profit margin of 15.6% (our calculation), solid for a maker of heavy equipment. Sales grew from R$37.99bn (US$7.4 bn) to R$40.80bn (US$7.9bn) in 2025, up 7.4% (our calculation).

The standout number is how hard the company works its owners’ money. For every real shareholders have in the business, it earns about 33 back a year — a return on equity of 32.5%, unusually high and steady.

The balance sheet is conservative. Cash of R$6.30bn (US$1.23bn) sits just above total debt of R$6.06bn (US$1.18bn), leaving the company in a small net cash position of about R$233m (US$45m, our calculation).

Investors pay a full price for that quality: shares trade at 30 times yearly profit — a price-to-earnings ratio of 30.1, rich for an industrial firm. The dividend yield is 4.7%, meaning a buyer today gets back about 4.7 cents a year in dividends for every real of share price.

What it is doing now

WEG is spending heavily to grow. Capital spending rose sharply in 2025, reaching R$321.4 million (US$63 mn) inside Brazil and R$351.2 million (US$68 mn) abroad in the third quarter alone.

It keeps buying small specialist firms to widen its range. In 2025 it agreed to buy the assets of Heresite Protective Coatings, a US industrial-coatings company, for US$9.5 million, and it has expanded into batteries and electric mobility.

What to watch

The shine has dimmed a little. JPMorgan analyst Marcelo Motta downgraded WEG to Neutral, citing a fourth-quarter miss and weaker guidance, after lower renewable-project deliveries weighed on growth.

The key tensions: whether heavy investment translates into faster sales, and whether the high return on equity holds. Exchange rates and commodity prices remain key risks, while international expansion and new capacity drive the outlook.
