São Paulo’s capital has more apartment buildings than houses for the first time
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The São Paulo capital for the first time has more multi-storey than individual residences, shows a study released July 6 by the Center of Metropolis Studies (CEM), Center for Research, Innovation and Dissemination (CEPID) of the Foundation for Research Support of the State of São Paulo (FAPESP).
According to the researchers, the expansion of apartment buildings is the result of an increase of medium and high-end multi-storey properties, representing an elitization of residential typologies.
The data is part of a set of technical reports entitled Urban Policies, Inequalities and Planning. The study on municipal planning, mobility, social participation and budget will be published weekly until September, when the São Paulo Forum 21 is to take place. The event, between September 21 and 30, will analyze São Paulo’s urban planning.
