Rio’s Acting Governor Says He Will Keep Focus on Pandemic
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The acting governor of Rio de Janeiro, Claudio Castro, who temporarily took over the state government on Friday, August 28th, met yesterday with the Secretary of Health, Alex Bousquet, to discuss actions related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Castro became governor after Wilson Witzel was removed by the Superior Court of Justice (STJ).
“We must not let anything shift our focus from the pandemic. Health is a priority, therefore, a systematic monitoring to preserve our actions in the capital and in the interior. We will join our efforts with other spheres of power and work through dialogue and partnership, in addition to reinforcing the instruments of control and transparency,” said Castro.

During the meeting, the Secretary introduced a change in the criteria for notification of Covid-19 cases and advised that there has been an increase in the number of tests conducted on the population.
