RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Bolivian President, Luis Arce, announced that the binational cabinets with Peru would be resumed after a meeting with Pedro Castillo, who was sworn in this Wednesday (28) as the new Peruvian President.

The Bolivian president expressed that after a meeting with Castillo, they determined to “resume” the binational cabinets between both countries and that the next meeting will be held in Bolivia.

“We have decided to resume the binational cabinets this time together with our social organizations,” said Arce in contact with the press in Lima.

The details of this binational cabinet will be coordinated between the foreign ministers of both countries to determine the date this activity will occur, said Arce.

The Bolivian president stressed that the last meeting of this type was held in Peru and that it is important to “resume this mechanism” so that the “peoples can move forward” and that through the decisions of the governments, they can benefit.

Arce stressed that there are many ideological coincidences with Castillo. He even reminded him of 2006 when former President Evo Morales took power in Bolivia and the “process of change” began in the country. “Bolivia more than ever is willing to cooperate and work with the Peruvian government”, he remarked.

The Bolivian president highlighted that political parties that “benefit the poorest” are “gaining more space” in Latin America. “There are better perspectives to be able to work, we work better ideologically when there are common interests among governments,” emphasized Arce.

The president pointed out other issues he discussed with Castillo, such as energy and urea exports, which will be analyzed in the next binational cabinet. The last cabinet between the two countries was held in 2019 in Peru.

Together with an official entourage and former president Evo Morales, Arce attended Castillo’s inauguration as Peru’s president until 2026. Morales also met with Castillo in which the former Bolivian president considered a scenario for a “binational agenda” between Arce and the Peruvian president.
