Petrobras Symphony Orchestra Presents a Night of Indie Music this Wednesday

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – This Wednesday, May 22nd, the Petrobras Sinfônica (Petrobras Symphony Orchestra) will be playing a free concert of assorted indie classics at the Teatro Rival Petrobras in Rio’s historic city center.

This free show marks the countdown to the Queremos! Festival 2019, which will take place on Saturday, June 15th, at Marina da Glória. The Petrobras Symphony Orchestra will be opening the festival with their much-anticipated “Bohemian Rhapsody” concert, featuring orchestral interpretations of Queen classics.

“It is a great pride for Petrobras Symphony Orchestra to crown our beautiful partnership with Queremos! with two events that perfectly unite our not-too-distant worlds. “The Classical is Indie” will be a great challenge because we will be performing an unprecedented repertoire, from Phoenix to José Gonzalez,” comments Mateus Simões, Executive Director of the Petrobras Symphony Orchestra.

Fourteen musicians from the Orchestra will take to the Teatro Rival stage to perform such hits as “Time to Pretend” by MGMT, “Feels Like We Only Go backwards” by Tame Impala, “Lisztomania” by Phoenix and “Take me out” by Franz Ferdinand.

The arrangements come courtesy of Dudu Trentin, with the presentation being the latest from the series “O Clássico É” (“Classical Is…”) which looks to popularize and revitalize classical music through orchestral interpretations of genres such as rock, movie soundtracks, heavy metal, and pop.

The orchestra has enjoyed great success with this series, presenting their well-received interpretations of everything from Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon,” to the film soundtracks of cult director Tim Burton.
