Panama Airport Sets 2023 Passenger Record

In 2023, Tocumen International Airport in Panama handled 17,825,465 passengers, surpassing its 2019 record and achieving a new high.

Raffoul Arab, the airport’s manager, said this success comes from the airlines’ trust.

They increased flight numbers and destinations because of the airport’s support and safe, timely operations.

This success boosts Panama’s key regional transit and cargo hub role.

Tocumen S.A., which runs the airport, shared that 1,606,558 passengers traveled through the airport in December.

The report also showed that the busiest regions in December were South America (44%), North America (30%), the Caribbean (11%), and Central America (11%).

European markets contributed 4%.

By 2023’s end, 31 airlines were operating at Tocumen. This included 15 cargo and 16 passenger airlines.

The airport connected to 87 global destinations in December. This was through 16 commercial airlines serving major American and European cities.

The data also revealed that 71% of Tocumen’s passengers in 2023 were in transit. The airport managed 143,034 aircraft operations during the year.

Popular destinations included Miami, Bogotá, Medellín, San José, Punta Cana, Cancún, Orlando, Sao Paulo, Lima, and Guayaquil.

In 2023, the airport’s cargo terminal handled 208,573 metric tons of goods. In December, it processed 20,395 tons.
