Nicaraguan Bishop Rolando Álvarez is brought to trial

The Nicaraguan regime has sent on Tuesday to trial the bishop of the diocese of Matagalpa, Rolando Álvarez, kidnapped by the Sandinista regime since last August 19.

The priest is accused of conspiracy to undermine national integrity and propagation of false news to the detriment of the State and society.

Judge Gloria María Saavedra Corrales decided to send her case to trial, also maintaining her house arrest, pointing out from the judicial apparatus of the dictatorship that “the initial hearing of the criminal proceeding was held in which Rolando José Álvarez Lagos appeared as the defendant.”

According to witnesses of the same, the priest was presented there without his religious clothing.

On December 13, the Nicaraguan Public Ministry had formally accused the bishop for these crimes.

Álvarez is just one of about a dozen religious that the Ortega regime has detained at this time. His case has gained special relevance due to the brutality with which he was arrested in the north of the country last year and also because he is the first bishop against whom Ortega has openly targeted since he returned to power in 2007.
