Morrissey to Perform in Rio’s Barra da Tijuca on November 24th

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Known for his time with the iconic 1980s band, The Smiths, and for his ongoing successful solo career, legendary British singer-songwriter Morrissey returns to perform live in Rio de Janeiro at Citibank Hall in Barra da Tijuca on November 24th.

Morrissey, who last performed in Brazil in 2012, arrives in Rio de Janeiro as part of his ongoing tour in support of his fifteenth and most recent solo release 2014’s World Peace Is None of Your Business.

Born Steven Patrick Morrissey in 1959 in Lancashire, England, Morrissey first gained widespread public attention as the frontman, singer and co-songwriter for the band The Smiths.

Formed in Manchester, England in 1982, The Smiths, in addition to Morrissey, consisted of guitarist and songwriter Johnny Marr, bassist Andy Rourke and drummer Mike Joyce.

Together, they released their debut self-titled album in 1984 and they would go on to release three additional albums; Meat Is Murder in 1985; The Queen is Dead in 1986, and Strangeways, Here We Come in 1987.

Considered by many critics to be one of the most influential bands of their decade, the Smiths disbanded in 1987 due to personal differences. Morrissey would then go on to release his first solo album, Viva Hate, in 1988.

Earning critical praise and a worldwide fanbase, Morrissey he has followed with fifteen additional releases, Notable songs of his solo career include “Irish Blood, English Heart”, “The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get”, “Suedehead“, and “First of the Gang to Die.”

During live shows Morrissey is known to perform works from throughout his solo career as well as some Smiths songs. Tickets for the Rio de Janeiro show remain on sale and Citibank Hall’s doors will open at 9:30 PM.
