What it is

Founded in 1890 as a brick factory, the company evolved into Ladrillera Monterrey in 1929 and adopted its current name, Grupo Lamosa, in 1995. Today it is the second-largest ceramic producer in the world and the market leader in Mexico in adhesives and construction insulation.

The business runs through four areas: Tiles and Flooring (brands include Porcelanite, Lamosa, Italica and Firenze Tecnoarte), Adhesives and Waterproofing (Crest, Perdura, Niasa and Solutek), Sanitary Ware, and Real Estate Development. In 2022 it also acquired Fanosa, a maker of expanded polystyrene foam used in construction and packaging.

The company sells in the Mexican domestic market and exports to more than 15 countries in Central and South America, the United States and Canada. It operates 50 plants across Mexico, the United States, Spain, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Guatemala.

Who owns it

The largest shareholder is CEO Federico Toussaint Elosúa, with roughly 52% of shares outstanding — a stake that gives him decisive control over the company’s future. Institutional investors hold about 4.2% (EODHD data), leaving the remaining free float — shares available to ordinary market buyers — at roughly 44%.

Grupo Lamosa has been listed on the Mexican Stock Exchange since 1951, but the controlling stake has never left the Toussaint family’s hands, making this effectively a founder-run, publicly listed private company.

Who runs it

Federico Toussaint Elosúa — an industrial engineer with an MBA — has been CEO since 1992 and Chairman of the Board since 1998, giving him 33 years with the company. Under a succession plan approved by the board, he will step down as CEO on 1 January 2027 and continue solely as Executive Chairman; during his tenure Lamosa grew from a primarily Mexican operation into one present in nine countries with commercial relationships in more than 130.

His designated successor as CEO is Jorge Aldape Luengas, current head of the Adhesives and Insulation business, who brings a 42-year career at Grupo Lamosa. On the finance side, José Carlos Pons de la Garza joined as Chief Administration and Finance Officer on 1 May 2026, replacing Jorge Touché Zambrano.

The money, in plain words

Sales rose from MXN 31.6bn (US$1.82bn) in 2023 to MXN 35.2bn (US$2.03bn) in 2025 — revenue growth of about 11.5% over two years (our calculation) — a solid advance for a mature industrial company. For every MXN 100 (US$6)of sales, Lamosa keeps roughly MXN 5.90 (US$0.34)as profit — a net profit margin of 5.9%, tight by consumer-goods standards but typical for a capital-heavy tile and adhesives manufacturer.

For every peso owners have put into the business, it earns back about eleven centavos a year — a return on equity of 11.1% — decent but below its own 2023 peak. The shares trade at 15.5 times annual earnings (a price-to-earnings ratio of 15.5×), in line with global building-materials peers, and the company pays no dividend at present, preferring to direct cash toward growth.

The 2024 net profit collapsed to MXN 131m (US$7.6m) from MXN 3.25bn the year before — almost certainly a one-off accounting hit from the Baldocer acquisition and currency moves — before rebounding to MXN 2.01bn (US$115.7m) in 2025, confirming the dip was transient (our reading of three years of structured data). Cash on the balance sheet stands at MXN 1.01bn (US$58.1m); total debt is not separately disclosed in available filings.

What it is doing now

In May 2026 Lamosa completed a debt refinancing of roughly US$298 million — about 30% of its total debt — through a five-bank club deal, extending the average life of its borrowings from 3.3 to 5.1 years and reducing near-term repayment pressure. That move tidies the balance sheet ahead of the CEO transition and gives the incoming leadership room to act.

The 2024 annual report highlighted the successful integration of Baldocer’s operations in Spain, the Spanish tile maker acquired in late 2023 that gave Lamosa its first European production footprint. The company has also set 2035 sustainability targets, including cutting its direct and energy-related emissions by 25% and reducing water extraction by 50%.

What to watch

• CEO handover, January 2027. Toussaint has been the architect of every major deal for 33 years; how markets receive Aldape — and whether the acquisition pace changes — is the defining question for the next chapter.
• Debt load and free cash. Total debt is not publicly broken down in available filings; investors should watch the next quarterly report for net-debt disclosure following the May 2026 refinancing.
• Mexico construction cycle. 2024 was a challenging year marked by economic slowdown; the pace of Mexican housing and infrastructure spending will drive tile and adhesives volumes directly.
• European integration. Baldocer is Lamosa’s first bet that it can compete in the competitive Spanish and broader European tile market; margin performance there will signal whether the expansion adds real value.
