The Government of Germany announced today the support of €199 million for social and economic development sectors in Mozambique, within the scope of closer bilateral cooperation, according to a joint communiqué.

The note from the German Embassy in Maputo and Mozambique’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation advances that funding will be channeled to the areas of vocational education, decentralization and public finance,  sustainable economic development, as well as renewable energies.

“The parties reaffirmed their mutual desire to continue to strengthen bilateral relations,
based on mutual trust and mutual benefits, which characterizes this long-standing partnership,” refers the text.

On the occasion, the head of the German delegation, Alois Schneider, from the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, said that “Germany is a committed, reliable and experienced partner, which supports Mozambique in the implementation of its development objectives through effective cooperation.”

The European country is one of Mozambique’s largest bilateral donors, with a long history of cooperation, added Schneider. The official declared that Germany’s aid will focus more on the northern region of Mozambique, where the province of Cabo Delgado has been affected since 2017 by an armed insurgency characterized by various entities as terrorism.

For his part, the head of the Mozambican delegation in the aforementioned negotiations, Aristides Adriano, said that the Government of Mozambique recognizes the importance of the partnership with Germany in the context of development cooperation.
