Embraer Secures Historic 15-Aircraft Deal with Japan’s ANA

Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer confirmed a pivotal agreement with All Nippon Airways for 15 E190-E2 jets. The groundbreaking deal includes options for five additional aircraft, potentially valuing the contract at $1.2 billion based on current list prices.

The arrangement marks the first Japanese order for Embraer’s E2 family. Deliveries will begin in 2028 and continue through 2032, expanding ANA’s fleet strategy to better connect regional destinations across Japan.

ANA selected the E190-E2 to bridge its fleet gap between larger Boeing 737s and smaller Dash 8 turboprops. The aircraft fits perfectly in this middle segment with capacity for 97-114 passengers depending on configuration.

The announcement came during the Brazil-Japan Business Forum. Both Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba attended the signing ceremony.

“We want to improve domestic flight profitability and expand international routes,” explained ANA Holdings Chief Koji Shibata. The order forms part of ANA’s broader fleet renewal involving 77 total aircraft from multiple manufacturers.

Embraer’s E190-E2 boasts impressive environmental credentials with 25% lower carbon emissions than predecessor models. Each jet will prevent approximately 1,700 tons of carbon dioxide emissions over a decade of operation.

The aircraft features Embraer’s signature two-by-two seating arrangement that eliminates middle seats. Passengers also enjoy larger windows, more headroom, and individual service units.

Technical specifications demonstrate the aircraft’s capabilities with a maximum range of 2,850 nautical miles (5,278 km). The jet cruises at Mach 0.82 and reaches a service ceiling of 41,000 feet.

Pratt & Whitney PW1919G engines power the E190-E2, supporting sustainable aviation goals. The aircraft operates with up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel blends and has demonstrated compatibility with 100% SAF.

Embraer’s previous-generation E-Jets have served Japanese airlines since 2009. Currently, 28 first-generation models operate with carriers like J-Air and Fuji Dream Airlines.

This strategic victory gives Embraer stronger footing against Airbus’s A220 program in the competitive regional jet market. ANA’s endorsement provides valuable validation from one of aviation’s most respected operators.

The order bolsters Embraer’s commercial aviation segment, which already enjoys a healthy $10.2 billion backlog. The company has delivered over 1,800 E-Jets to more than 80 airlines worldwide.

ANA plans to deploy the E190-E2s on domestic routes, enhancing connectivity to smaller Japanese cities. This strategy aligns with post-pandemic recovery efforts focused on right-sizing aircraft to match demand.

The transaction reinforces Brazil’s growing industrial relationship with Japan. Both countries seek expanded trade partnerships beyond traditional agricultural and raw materials exchanges.
