Rio State Deputy Wants Speed Cameras Information on the Internet
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Information on speed cameras on roads and highways in the State of Rio de Janeiro may be compulsorily disclosed on the Internet.

This is determined by Bill 1.357/16, by Deputy Thiago Pampolha, which the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (ALERJ) approved in the first hearing on Tuesday, August 20th. The text has yet to be adopted in a second voting by the Chamber.
The proposal is applicable to all highways in Rio, whether administered by the state government, the federal fovernment or private concessionaires, stipulating that the locations of radars and their respective speed limits be disclosed on the Internet. The Executive branch shall regulate the measure if approved.
Pampolha stated that the goal is to help drivers and prevent unjust fines. “The traffic signs on our roads are generally deficient and in some cases contradictory, often leaving the driver in doubt about the speed limit of certain stretches. Typically, the speed limit indicator sign does not exist or is installed in an inadequate location, impairing its visibility and serving as real traps for drivers,” he said.
