BRICS Bank president Dilma Rousseff arrives in China for her first day of work

Dilma Rousseff was sworn in on Tuesday (28) as the President of the New Development Bank (NDB), the Bank of the BRICS.

The ceremony took place at the institution’s headquarters in Shanghai, China.

Accompanied by executives on this first day, she has yet to make any statements in her new position.

The former President of Brazil was elected on March 24 for the position, for which she will receive around US$57,000 in salaries.

According to the latest annual balance sheet released by the NDB, the total amount paid in salaries and benefits to the six leading positions in the bank – consisting of the presidency and five vice-presidencies – is US$4 million per year.

The accounting report does not break down the amount paid to each one but only reports the overall expenditure.

The financial institution was created by Brazil, Russia, India, and China to finance infrastructure and sustainability projects in friendly nations.

The BRICS Bank has a portfolio totaling US$32.8 billion financed in 96 projects worldwide.

According to a report released by the bank, the goal is to invest about US$30 billion more by 2026.
