Brazil Records 739 Covid-19 Deaths in Past 24 Hours (September 19th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Ministry of Health (MS) updated the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) figures in the country early on Saturday evening, September 19th. According to the epidemiological bulletin, 136,532 people have died of Covid-19, 739 in the past 24 hours alone.

São Paulo remains first among the states that recorded the most deaths, accounting for 33,927 fatalities, followed by Rio de Janeiro with 17,634 and Ceará with 8,801. Pernambuco, Minas and Bahia follow with 8,004, 6,656 and 6,221 deaths, respectively.

Roraima (613), Amapá (691) and Acre (648), all in the North Region, record the lowest number of deaths.

Still according to the Ministry of Health, so far 4,528,240 people have been infected, 33,057 in the past 24 hours. The bulletin claims that 84.4 percent of those infected, or 3,820,095 have recovered.

Rio de Janeiro

The state of Rio de Janeiro has recorded the death of 59 people over the past 24 hours, rising to 17,634 deaths in the state since the first case of the disease in March. According to the State Health Secretariat bulletin, by Saturday there were 251,261 confirmed Covid-19 cases in the state, 403 deaths under investigation and 354 dismissed cases. Among the confirmed cases, 228,258 patients have recovered from the disease.

Infections in Rio de Janeiro

Of the total of 251,261 infections in the state, the state capital continues to lead with 97,824 people infected by Covid-19. Next came Niterói (12,395); São Gonçalo (11,854); Duque de Caxias (9,118); Belford Roxo (8,949); Macaé (8,047); Volta Redonda (6,393); Nova Iguaçu (6,177); Campos dos Goytacazes (5,418); Teresópolis ( 5,401); Angra dos Reis ( 5. 376); Itaboraí (4,492); Magé (3,683); Maricá (3,488); São João de Meriti ( 3,303); Nova Friburgo (2,899); Itaperuna (2,774); Três Rios (2,706); Barra Mansa (2,576), and Cabo Frio (2,432) – these are among the 92 cities with the highest number of infections.

Deaths in Rio de Janeiro

Of the total 17,634 deaths by Covid-19 in the state, the municipality of Rio counts 10,470 fatalities. Next come São Gonçalo (695); Duque de Caxias (690); Nova Iguaçu (566); São João de Meriti (420); Niterói (413); Campos dos Goytacazes (356); Belford Roxo (281); Magé (214); Itaboraí (210); Volta Redonda (206); Petrópolis (197); Nilópolis (176); Angra dos Reis (174); Mesquita (166); Barra Mansa (150); Macaé (144), as well as Cabo Frio and Teresópolis with (136), recording the highest number of deaths by Covid-19.

Only the municipality of Trajano de Moraes, in the hills of northern Rio de Janeiro, about 250 kilometers (km) from the capital, has not recorded any deaths by Covid-19. The city has already recorded 22 infections by the disease, but at the moment has only one infected patient, in home isolation and monitored by health teams.
