New Study Discloses 11 Most Common Covid-19 Symptoms Among Brazilians

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A study published on Wednesday, August 12th, by the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel), in Rio Grande do Sul, lists the eleven most common Covid-19 symptoms among Brazilians. Headache, change in the sense of smell, and fever are among the first-ranked.

The data were collected from homes in 133 cities in Brazil, with the involvement of 31,869 respondents, with Covid-19 infection or otherwise. This is a step in the Epicovid-19 survey that analyses the prevalence of the virus throughout the country.

Among the respondents who tested positive, the most common complaints are headaches (58 percent), loss of smell and taste (56.5 percent), fever (52.1 percent), cough (47.7 percent), sore throat (33.8 percent), diarrhea (25.6 percent), difficulty breathing (23.1 percent), trembling (20.5 percent), palpitations (20 percent), and vomiting (9.5 percent).

The study conducted pre-validated serological tests among the subjects. Of the total, only 2.7 percent were positive; several others, however, exhibited symptoms of the disease despite not having produced antibodies and, therefore, tested negative. Among those who tested positive for the disease, only 12.1 percent did not develop any symptoms, suggesting that the vast majority of those infected in the country develop symptoms of the disease.
