Cristina Kirchner accuses Argentina’s press of “shielding” former president Mauricio Macri

RIO DE JANEIRO,  BRAZIL – The vice-president of Argentina, Cristina Kirchner, has accused the country’s press of “shielding” former president Mauricio Macri, a position to which she has contrasted the “persecution” allegedly suffered by her family for years during his administration as the head of the country.

The former Argentine president between 2007 and 2015 had cited information published on Monday by the newspaper ‘Ámbito Financiero’ in which it is argued that Gianfranco Macri, brother of the former president, declared as his own in 2016 a trust that would reach US$25 million when, according to Fernández, its actual owner was Alicia Blanco Villegas, mother of both.

Likewise, she has recalled that in 2016 a letter entitled ‘It’s not my mom, it’s your dad and you too’ was published, an editorial made by the government against her mother, Ofelia Wilhelm, who died in April 2019. For her, it was a “ridiculous denunciation”.

Deputies of the Frente de Todos have again accused the former president of “cheating” to benefit his family when he eliminated by decree the article that prevented his relatives from benefiting from the money laundering law passed in 2016.

The vice-president has compared the information of the mentioned newspaper with the “persecution strategy” suffered by her family and has quoted another article of the newspaper ‘Clarín’ titled ‘The grandmother, the daughters, the son-in-law, the grandchildren: all the Kirchners denounced before Justice’.

“Look how ‘Clarín’ titled that false accusation. They even made my daughter sick,” said the Vice-President in reference to the health of Florencia Kirchner, who has had to undergo numerous medical treatments.

In addressing the issue, Kirchner recalled that for “Macri’s family there is a media shield that lasts until today.
