’30 Seconds to Mars’ Thrills the Audience at Rock in Rio’s Closing Day

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Last night, Sunday, September 24th, fans celebrated the closing day of Rock in Rio 2017 at the Olympic Park, in Barra da Tijuca. Hardcore, alternative rock and punk music set the tone of the day, with bands The Offspring, 30 Seconds to Mars and Red Hot Chili Peppers performing on the Palco Mundo (World Stage).

Opening the main stage’s was the Brazilian band Capital Inicial, which played some of the fans’ favorites, like “Mulher de fases” and “Veraneio vascaína”.

At the sound of “Que país é esse?” (What is this country?), the group criticized Brazil’s current political scenario.

Following, the punk rock American band The Offspring brought to the audience hits like “Come out and play”, “All I want” and “You’re gonna go far, kid”.

“Vocês são a melhor platéia do mundo” (you are the best audience in the world), said in Portuguese the band’s vocalist, Dexter Holland, who closed the show with “Pretty Fly”, “The Kids Aren’t Alright” and “Self Esteem”.

The most surprising show of the night was 30 Seconds To Mars’, which started with vocalist Jared Leto having açaí on the stage and complimenting the Brazilian cuisine to the fans.

Just like in 2013, when 30 Seconds to Mars first performed in the festival, Leto rode the Rock In Rio’s traditional zipline on the show, amazing the audience. Songs like “This is war”, “Search and destroy” and “The Kill” were some of the highlights of the setlist.

Red Hot Chili Peppers was in charge of closing this Rock in Rio’s edition, performing at 12:25 AM on the main stage. The American band’s lively punk rock show included famous songs like “Californication”, “Under the Bridge”, “By the way” and Give it away”.

The Sunset stage’s attractions also surprised the rock lovers, with heavy metal band Republica sharing the stage with violinist Iva Giracca, from Santa Catarina’s Symphonic Orchestra, and band Doctor Pheabes bringing a metal rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine”.
