RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazilian industrialists have a positive evaluation of Jair Bolsonaro’s government.

According to a survey released on Wednesday, December 11th, by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), 60 percent consider the government excellent or good, and only seven percent assess it as bad or terrible; 26 percent think that the government is fair.

The data from the Special Survey ‘Government Evaluation by the Industrial Entrepreneur’ were submitted during a ceremony at the headquarters of the CNI in Brasília, where President Bolsonaro was awarded the Grand Collar of the Order of Industrial Merit.

According to the CNI, the award is “a recognition of the Brazilian industry to the federal government’s effort in advancing the guidelines that make Brazil more modern and competitive”.

In acknowledging the tribute, Bolsonaro stated that it is necessary to “seize this opportunity” in which Brazil is changing and recovering the confidence of local entrepreneurs and international investors.

“Brazilians have an enormous potential to create, innovate and are excellent entrepreneurs. They need to have freedom, not to have the state hindering their work,” said the president about the government’s interest in cutting red tape in the business environment in Brazil.

According to the CNI, among the important measures taken by the government this year are the Social Welfare reform, the signing of the free trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union, the progress in concessions in the field of infrastructure and modernization of labor relations and the contribution with measures that promote the increase of legal security and reduce state intervention.

During the event, the president of CNI, Robson Braga de Andrade, introduced the numbers of the sector and the organization’s projects and actions, the Industry Social Service (SESI) and the National Service for Industrial Learning (SENAI) for the development of Brazilian industry.

According to Andrade, the structural reforms, particularly the Social Welfare and Tax reforms, will favor the return of macroeconomic stability and the increase of investments and production.

“Here we have industrial entrepreneurs who have made a great effort to develop Brazil and generate employment and who came here at the end of the year to greet you and to show you that the Brazilian industry has supported you and has been witnessing the advances that Brazil has made over these months, this year”.

“We are in the stage of celebrating and undoubtedly working together for 2020 to be an even better year”, said Andrade to Bolsonaro.

At the ceremony, two technical cooperation agreements were also signed between the Union and SESI and SENAI to provide enrolment in training courses and educational monitoring in vocational courses for youths enrolled in the Single Registry for Social Programs.

The ceremony included the presidents of the state federations and some 650 entrepreneurs. Deputies were also present and, alongside Bolsonaro, the Ministers of Economy, Paulo Guedes, Citizenship, Osmar Terra, the Government Secretariat, Luiz Eduardo Ramos, and the Institutional Security Office, Augusto Heleno.

The Order of Industrial Merit was founded in 1958 to reward personalities and institutions acknowledged by the Brazilian industry. The Grand Collar is intended only for Presidents of the Republic.

Research

The CNI’s survey of Bolsonaro’s government interviewed 1,914 entrepreneurs from across the country, between December 2nd and 10th. The margin of error is 2 percentage points and reliability is 95 percent.

The government is better assessed by entrepreneurs from the South. In that region, 71 percent say the government is optimal or good. In the Midwest, this rate stands at 68 percent. In the North, it is 62 percent and 57 percent in the Southeast.

According to the CNI, the Northeast Region is where industrial entrepreneurs approve the government to a lesser extent, even so, 50 percent assess it as optimal or good.

In addition, 65 percent of respondents trust President Bolsonaro and 64 percent approve of his way of governing.

The survey also shows that government actions in the areas of labor relations and interest rates are the best assessed by industrialists. Among respondents, 64 percent consider the government’s performance in labor relations to be optimal or good.

In the interest rate area, it is 63 percent. The third best-rated area is the reduction of bureaucracy, deemed optimal or good by 47 percent.

On Wednesday, the CNI/Ibope survey was also submitted outlining the population’s perspectives on the economy. Nearly half (49 percent) of the population believes that the country’s economic situation will improve in 2020, 24 percent say it will be the same and 24 percent believe it will worsen.

The survey interviewed 2,000 people in 127 municipalities between December 5th and 8th. The survey’s error margin is two percentage points and the reliability level is 95 percent.

The complete publications are available on the CNI website.

Former fighter

Before the event at CNI, Bolsonaro paid a courtesy visit to former World War II fighter Carlos Santiago de Amorim, 96 years old.

“I’m very happy to meet a living hero of Brazil – yes, he is an example to be followed, he risked his life for our freedom,” said the president from an apartment window on the fourth floor of a building located in the Southwest, a neighborhood near the center of the federal capital.
