Significant support for Lula’s impeachment trial, with fifty deputies signing petition

In a remarkable political development, fifty deputies, inclusive of some from the government’s partner parties, have endorsed the initiation of an impeachment trial against the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Other signatories include Gilson Fahur of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), overseeing Agriculture and Fishing, Mines and Energy, and Rodrigo Valadares from Union Brasil, responsible for Tourism and Communications.

Ubiratan Sanderson, a deputy from the Liberal Party (PL), has presented this fresh petition seeking to unseat Lula.

In his submission, Sanderson criticizes the Brazilian president for welcoming Maduro with state honors and nominating his personal lawyer, Cristiano Zanin, as the new Supreme Court judge.

Sanderson’s missive implicitly questions the propriety of these actions, thereby contributing to the growing call for an impeachment trial against President Lula.

The swelling momentum behind the petition is a potent indication of the current political climate in Brazil.
