São Paulo Government to Hire 1,185 Healthcare Professionals, Says Doria

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The governor of São Paulo, João Doria, announced on Monday, April 13th, the hiring of 1,185 healthcare professionals to work in the state’s public health system.

According to Doria, the state will call up 260 professionals approved in past public tenders, who will start working on April 22nd, and expects to hold a new public tender for the hiring of an additional 925 healthcare professionals.

According to the governor, in all, there will be 245 doctors, 840 nurses, 50 physiotherapists, 30 health officials, and 20 social workers. The new hires are expected to fill positions in hospitals and healthcare centers. Applications for the call will be open between April 15th and 22nd, with work scheduled to begin on May 1st.

Isolation

At the press conference in the Bandeirantes Palace, João Doria praised the increase in the rate of adherence to social isolation in the State, which rose from 47 to the 59 percent observed on Easter Sunday.

According to Doria, the next challenge for the government is to exceed a 60 percent adherence to quarantine. On another occasion, the governor had said that the state government’s target is to consistently reach the rate of 70 percent of the population in isolation.

The social isolation measure is recommended by medical authorities, including the World Health Organization, to flatten the curve of people infected with the novel coronavirus.

In expressing his gratitude to the population of São Paulo, Doria reiterated that, with greater adherence to isolation, São Paulo will be able to reduce the number of infections and deaths from Covid-19, in addition to ensuring greater speed in resuming economic activity in the state.

“The greater the isolation, the faster we will emerge from this crisis and go back to normal,” he said.
