The five operational units of the Rio de Janeiro State Police will operate the Arad combat rifle by the end of this year after recently acquiring 600 of these weapons, of 5.56 mm caliber, from the Israeli firm IWI.
These units are the Special Police Operations Battalion (BOPE), the Canine Action Battalion (BAC), the Shock Police Battalion (BPChq), the Motorcycle Tactical Group (GTM), and the Airmobile Group (GAM).
MODULAR AND RELIABLE COMBAT RIFLE
Lighter, more compact, and with a holographic sight, the new armament offers greater efficiency in patrol missions and operations in conflictive urban areas typical of Rio de Janeiro City.

The Arad is designed for use by infantry, special units, and operational police units and is specially designed for all types of combat scenarios where the ability to change caliber from 5.56X45mm to 300 BLK is required.
The rifle is equipped with a Picatinny rail for various optics and other accessories. The Picatinny rail is integral to the rifle’s fully flat upper receiver.
In addition, the rifle features M-LOK rails at handguard positions 3, 6, and 9.
The weapon includes a telescoping stock that allows users to adjust the length individually for their specific needs.
The modular structure of the weapon allows the user to disassemble and replace the barrel easily.
The weapon is fully ambidextrous, with controls on both sides of the rifle.
The IWI ARAD rifle is a short-stroke gas piston gun with a three-position regulator that allows for constant operation in all environmental conditions.
