Three things to know
- City entered Estágio 2 yesterday afternoon — heavy rain hit Campo Grande (42.4mm) and other areas of the Zona Oeste on Tuesday, triggering the alert at 15h10. Monitor COR-Rio for current status.
- Rain intensifies today — a low-pressure system forming off the Sudeste coast will bring pancadas de chuva from the morning and throughout the day. Região Serrana at highest risk.
- CALOR 3 protocol active — heat index expected between 36°C and 40°C despite the rain. Stay hydrated and avoid prolonged sun exposure.
Operational Status
Rio entered Estágio 2 at 15h10 on Tuesday, February 3, after heavy rain hit the Zona Oeste and Zona Norte. Campo Grande recorded 42.4mm between 12h and 18h45, with Madureira registering 26.2mm in the same period.
By evening, all rain-related occurrences had been resolved, but the weather pattern remains unstable. The Sistema Alerta Rio forecasts that a low-pressure system forming off the coast will maintain unstable conditions through Saturday.
Rain is expected from the morning today and at any time through the remainder of the week. The Região Serrana remains the area of highest concern, with soil already saturated from January’s heavy rainfall and elevated risk of deslizamentos (landslides).
The INMET orange alert for tempestades remains in effect, warning of chuvas de 30 a 60 mm por hora, ventos intensos de até 100 km/h, and risk of power outages and flooding.
Tuesday Recap
Tuesday saw the city toggle between Estágio 1 and Estágio 2 as rain cells moved through. The heaviest impacts were in Campo Grande and Cascadura, where several streets flooded temporarily. All occurrences were cleared by 20h10.
The city also entered CALOR 3 — the third level of the heat protocol — at 11h on Tuesday, indicating heat index values between 36°C and 40°C expected for at least three consecutive days. This creates a challenging combination of heat and humidity punctuated by strong afternoon storms.
Wednesday Blocos
True to its name, “Me Enterra na Quarta” (Bury Me on Wednesday) leads the midweek bloco lineup. Activity is lighter than weekends, but several options remain for dedicated foliões:
