Representatives of Brazil affirm at COP-27 that the country is in a hurry to start producing green hydrogen

Brazil is in a hurry to start producing green hydrogen and electricity from wind turbines to be installed in the sea (marine wind turbines), the country’s presidency disclosed on Thursday citing representatives participating in the the UN Climate Conference (COP-27), which is being held in Egypt.

“We need to accelerate the process of implementing clean energy projects because all countries want to lead this process,” said the president of the Brazilian Wind Energy Association (ABEEólica), Elbia Gannoum.

Due to the climatic conditions (with sun and wind, as well as water), Brazil is considered a great world power to be able to produce green hydrogen from wind energy generated by offshore wind turbines, which are wind turbines installed in the sea.

According to Gannoum, on the offshore side Brazil is doing very well, with the regulation established from the publication of the decree and the ordinances that deal with the subject. “Now we are going to work hard to have the first auction of the section for the use of the sea, which should happen next year,” she said.

The forecast is that the state of Ceará (northeast) will become the main producer of this fuel, having a plant in Porto do Pecém as a hub.

Gannoum explained that wind, marine and green hydrogen are related, “but they are interdependent,” since the country has other renewable sources at its disposal that are not harmful to the environment, which makes this fuel even more attractive to investors.

“It is a package of benefits of positive externalities that we have to attract investment. We cannot lose a single minute for the country to really take advantage of this opportunity,” she stressed.
