Petrobras will change its strategy to define fuel prices

The president of Petrobras, Jean Paul Prates, revealed in an interview with O Globo newspaper that the company would implement a new commercial strategy to replace the import parity policy (PPI) adopted in 2016.

The interview was published on Friday, 12.

Prates stated that the company would reduce fuel prices without completely disengaging from the foreign market.

In the search for a new approach, Prates highlighted the need to be “free from the PPI dogma” and seek a strategy that values the self-sufficiency and competitiveness of Petrobras.

Without giving details, the president promised that the company would continue to make profits but would adjust prices by refinery and according to the customer.

Petrobras’ new commercial policy will be announced soon, ending the mystery about the subject.

“It is not a government policy,” says Prates.

“It is what Petrobras will practice as a commercial strategy backed by the competitive advantages of producing and refining in Brazil.”

FUEL PRICES

The president of Petrobras emphasized that the fuel price will continue to be referenced by the international market.

Still, there will be variations according to demand and the destination of the purchase.

“If you buy a lot, I make a better price,” he said. “If you buy to deliver to the Port of Santos, it’s one thing; if you buy to deliver to the interior, it’s another.”

“But Petrobras is always going to be the best price option.”
