Covid: Panama with new measures to enter the country

By · March 31, 2021 · 2 min read

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The new P1 strain of Sars Cov-2 detected in a person coming from Brazil prompted new measures and a stricter control to those entering Panama regardless of their route.

The measure, which will come into force on March 31st at midnight, states that national and foreign travelers entering the country must have a negative Covid-19 test performed 48 hours before they arrived in Panama and must undergo a mandatory quarantine of 5 days at their home or hotel, and then another test to rule out having contracted the virus during that time.

Passengers will be responsible for the expenses incurred for these procedures.

Decree 260 establishes that in case of a positive test result, the traveler must be immediately admitted to a hospital for isolation and treatment and must also comply with the protocols established by Panamanian health authorities.

The Ministry of Health maintains the recommendation to citizens not to travel to South American countries, reiterates the importance of being vaccinated against Covid-19, and maintains the provision on the mandatory use of masks and compliance with all biosecurity measures already established in Panama.

Panama had suspended the entry of travelers from South America (nationals and foreigners residing in the country were exempted), measures that have been relaxed with Decree 260. The measure does not affect passengers in transit at Tocumen airport.
