Lula’s Approval Plummets: 43.5% Rate Presidency as Poor

Recent polls reveal a complex landscape of public opinion on President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s leadership in Brazil. The Futura Intelligence Institute’s survey shows a stark divide in the nation’s perception of its leader.

A significant portion of Brazilians, 43.5%, view Lula’s work as poor or terrible. This marks a concerning trend for the president, as negative ratings now outpace positive ones by over 10 percentage points.

Only 32.4% of voters rate his performance as good or excellent. The survey exposes demographic splits in Lula’s support base. Women, older citizens, and those with lower incomes tend to view him more favorably.

In contrast, men, middle-aged adults, and higher-income earners are more critical of his leadership. Regional differences also play a key role in shaping public opinion.

The Southeast region has seen a sharp rise in negative sentiment, with disapproval jumping from 38.5% to 48%. Meanwhile, the Northeast, traditionally Lula’s stronghold, witnessed a decline in positive ratings.

Economic concerns appear to be driving much of the dissatisfaction. Over half of those surveyed, 52.5%, now view Brazil’s economy as poor or terrible. This represents a significant increase from previous polls.

Brazilians Skeptical Amid Economic Concerns

Despite record-low unemployment rates, Brazilians remain skeptical about job creation efforts. Inflation worries continue to plague the administration, with negative perceptions on this issue also on the rise.

The Futura Intelligence survey, conducted in November 2024, provides a snapshot of Brazilian public opinion. With a sample size of 1,000 and a margin of error of 3.1%, it offers valuable insights into the nation’s political climate.

As Lula navigates these choppy waters, his ability to address economic concerns and bridge regional divides may prove crucial. The coming months will likely be pivotal in determining whether he can reverse this trend of growing disapproval.
