Jiu-Jitsu Professor Killed Today in Unannounced Police Operation in Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL –  Eyewitnesses reported an unannounced police operation in Complexo do Alemão in the North Zone of Rio in the early afternoon.

Jean Dava, a Jiu-Jitsu professor, and social projects voluntary was accidentally shot and killed by police as these witnesses report.

Residents say police entered the Community shooting and Jean Dava was hit while he was outside. He was probably mistaken for a bandit.

Jean Dava was an influential member of Complexo do Alemão. He worked combating drug trafficker by working with kids in sports and Jiu-Jitsu.

The scene remains tense, and roads are closed around the community as many manifestations happening — police and fire department clearing the streets as of 5 pm.

There are unconfirmed reports of two other residents, shot as well.
