Covid-19: Brazil Counts 713 Deaths and 28,523 New Cases in 24 Hours (October 15th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, Brazil has a cumulative 5,169,389 confirmed cases of the disease. Of this total, 89 percent of patients have recovered from the disease, 2.9 percent have died and 8.1 percent have recovered.

The data were released by the Ministry of Health on Thursday, October 15th.

Brazil recorded 713 deaths in 24 hours, bringing the total of deaths to 152,460. Another 2,360 deaths are under investigation. The number of positive Covid-19 diagnoses increased by 28,523 in 24 hours.

The number of recovered patients reaches 4,599,446. A total of 417,480 Brazilians are currently under medical care.

The report on Covid-19 cases released yesterday by the State Health Secretariat showed that the state of São Paulo remained below the Coronavirus Contingency Center’s projections for the first half of October.

The Center had projected that, by yesterday, the state would have between 1.10 million and 1.15 million confirmed Covid-19 cases and between 38,000 and 39,000 deaths. According to the report released yesterday afternoon, the state of São Paulo has 1,051,613 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, with 37,690 deaths. The daily numbers of deaths and new cases are still high in the state, but showing a deceleration.

The number of patients hospitalized with suspected or confirmed coronavirus cases currently amounts to 7,672 people in the state, also showing a downward trend. Of these patients, 3,343 are hospitalized in a critical condition. The ICU bed occupancy rate stands at 41.9 percent in the state and 41.3 percent in Greater São Paulo.

From the total of diagnosed cases in the state, 934,547 people have already recovered from the disease, 115,107 of whom after hospitalization.

Of São Paulo’s 645 municipalities, all have at least one confirmed case of the disease, and in 582 of them, at least one death has been reported.
