Covid-19: Brazil Counts 146,000 Deaths and 4.92 Million Cumulative Cases (October 5th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The number of deaths from the novel coronavirus pandemic has reached 146,675. In the past 24 hours, there were 323 new deaths from Covid-19. By Sunday, the total stood at 146,352. Another 2,540 deaths are under investigation.

The data are included in the Ministry of Health’s daily update, released by the portfolio early on Monday evening, October 5th. The body consolidates data submitted by the state Health Secretariats throughout Brazil.

The cumulative cases of Covid-19 have reached 4,927,235, according to the Ministry of Health’s balance. Between Sunday and Monday, the Health Secretariats added 11,946 new positive diagnoses of the disease to the statistics. By Sunday, the panel recorded 4,915,289 cases since the start of the pandemic.

There are some 485,258 cases under follow-up. According to the Ministry of Health, another 4,295,302 people have recovered from the disease.

The number of reported cases and deaths are lower on Sundays and Mondays due to the limited systematization and feeding of data of the Ministry of Health’s panel by the state Secretariats during weekends. On Tuesdays, the daily figures tend to rise as they include the unreported backlog of cases occuring during the weekend.

Covid-19 in the states

The states with the highest number of deaths are São Paulo (36,220), Rio de Janeiro (18,780), Ceará (9,056), Pernambuco (8,340), and Minas Gerais (7,656).

The states with the lowest number of deaths are Roraima (661), Acre (667), Amapá (718), Tocantins (972), and Mato Grosso do Sul (1,365).

In terms of cases, São Paulo passed the one million mark, with 1,004,579. Next come Bahia (316,005), Minas Gerais (308,466), Rio de Janeiro (273,338), and Ceará (243,106).
