Colombian Peso Holds Ground as Technical Barriers Limit Gains

The Colombian peso traded in a narrow range against the US dollar over the last 24 hours, with the official rate closing at 4,137.5 COP per USD, according to ICE and TradingView charts.

The market showed little volatility, as the peso’s recent decline paused and the currency consolidated near its short-term support. The charts reveal that after a pronounced downward trend of the dollar in late May, the peso stabilized above 4,125.

The daily chart shows the price repeatedly failing to break above the 20-day moving average, which now acts as a firm ceiling. The 50-day and 200-day moving averages remain above the current price, confirming a bearish medium-term trend.

Bollinger Bands have narrowed, signaling reduced volatility and reinforcing the consolidation narrative. On the four-hour chart, the peso managed to climb above the 50-period moving average, but it faces resistance at the lower edge of the Ichimoku cloud and the 100-period moving average.

The price action remains capped below 4,146, a level that aligns with both technical and psychological resistance. The Relative Strength Index sits near neutral, indicating a lack of strong momentum in either direction.

Volume data from the session did not show any significant spikes, suggesting that institutional and retail traders remain cautious. No major ETF inflows or outflows appeared in the last 24 hours, and the absence of large trades points to a market waiting for new catalysts.

Colombian Peso Holds Ground Amid Mixed Signals from Policy

Macroeconomic fundamentals continue to weigh on sentiment. Colombia’s central bank has signaled a gradual easing cycle, with inflation trending lower but still above target. The country faces fiscal pressures, and the government’s ability to manage spending remains in focus.

Oil prices, a key driver for the peso, have stabilized but failed to provide a clear boost. Internationally, investors remain attentive to US Federal Reserve policy, as expectations for rate cuts have fluctuated with recent US economic data.

During the session, traders noted that the peso’s consolidation reflects both local and global uncertainty. The currency’s inability to break above the 20-day moving average on the daily chart keeps bullish bets in check.

At the same time, the successful defense of the 4,125 support suggests that the recent selloff may have run its course for now. Technical analysis points to a market at a crossroads.

A sustained move above the Ichimoku cloud on the four-hour chart could open the door to further gains, but the peso must overcome entrenched resistance levels.

Until then, the market is likely to remain range-bound, as participants watch for signals from both domestic policy and global markets.

The Colombian peso’s performance over the last day underscores a market in balance, with technical and fundamental factors keeping price action contained. Traders now look to upcoming data and policy announcements for direction.
