Brazil: Rio’s Theatro Municipal reopens with free shows after 19 months closed
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – After a year and 7 months closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Rio de Janeiro’s Theatro Municipal decided to start operating again with a special program and free sessions to end the nostalgia of those who missed the shows.
The project is called “Theatro Municipal de portas abertas” (Theatro Municipal with open doors), and its goal is to promote access to shows and invite the population to consume art.

A number of music and ballet performances are highlighted, such as “Paquita”, with music by Ludwig Minkus, and “Noite de Walpurgis,” with music by Charles Gounod.
The schedule began on Thursday (October 28) and ran through Sunday (October 31).
The box office operates from 10 AM to 6 PM and four tickets per Individual Taxpayer ID will be issued. The tickets can be purchased at the box office on the desired day. Theatro Municipal is located at Praça Floriano, in Cinelândia.
