Brazil: Petrobras resubmits application for licensing at the mouth of the Amazon River

Petrobras resubmitted on Thursday (25) the request for oil exploration in the basin of the mouth of the Amazon River.

The president of the state-owned company, Jean Paul Prates, announced the decision on social networks.

On the last day, 17, the president of Ibama, Rodrigo Agostinho, denied the license requested by the company.

“As agreed at the Tuesday meeting on environmental issues related to the Equatorial Margin, we have just resubmitted a request to resume the licensing process for drilling well Morpho 1-APS-57 in the Amapá Deep Waters sector of the maritime sedimentary basin called ‘Foz do Amazonas’,” Prates wrote on Twitter.

Representatives from Ibama, the Ministry of Mines and Energy, and the Environment attended the meeting.

The Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva, defended the technical decision to deny the licensing and reinforced that it would be complied with.

“This process was conducted with the utmost diligence by the Sustainability and Environment teams of Petrobras, which has been working since – when it took over the ANP concession to execute all the steps of the Exploratory Program of the federal concession of the FZA-M-59 block,” Prates stressed.
