Brazil and Chile activate roaming pact and guarantee domestic rates for international services

Brazil and Chile have implemented a roaming agreement as part of their broader free trade pact.

The agreement, administered by Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), went into effect on July 25.

It mandates that mobile service providers in both nations apply domestic rates to international roaming services.

This applies to personal mobile service providers and those with virtual network licenses.

The agreement was introduced to Brazilian law in January 2022 and is designed not to impose additional charges on mobile users in either country.

To assist in its application, Anatel established a dedicated team known as the “International Roaming Working Group”.

This group adjusted the Operations Manual to suit the agreement’s requirements.

Furthermore, one year post-implementation, a meeting between representatives from both countries will be held.

This meeting aims to discuss any observed cases or unique situations during the agreement’s execution, and consider if any alterations to the existing framework between users and mobile service providers are necessary.
