According to the prosecutor’s office, the People and Guarantees Unit prosecutor in Guayaquil, Édgar Escobar, 43, was murdered in front of the Prosecutor General’s Office (FGE) headquarters.
“The prosecutor of the People and Guarantees Unit of Guayaquil, Édgar Escobar, was shot this morning in front of the La Merced building,” the Office announced.
Prosecutor General Diana Salazar expressed her outrage at the murder of Escobar Zambrano.

“I am deeply outraged by this new murder of a fellow prosecutor, the third this year. The actions of criminality will not stop the work of the Prosecutor’s Office to fight crime in our country. We demand guarantees and security to do our work,” Salazar wrote on her Twitter account.
